Gia Lai restores shrimp farming after storm, prepares for 2026 season

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Following damage caused by Storm No. 13 in late 2025, brackish water shrimp farming in Gia Lai is being rapidly restored. In key farming areas such as Tuy Phước and Tuy Phước Đông, farmers are focusing on rehabilitating ponds, repairing infrastructure, and treating the environment in preparation for the 2026 crop.

Many ponds that were silted up, suffered embankment erosion, or had damaged water supply and drainage systems are being repaired. Farmers are draining ponds, removing bottom sludge, drying ponds for 7–10 days, and applying lime for disinfection to eliminate pathogens. Water gates, culverts, and filtration systems are also being inspected and replaced to reduce disease risks.

In addition, many households are investing in settling ponds, water treatment ponds, and reinforcing embankments to improve environmental control. Authorities recommend adhering to the 2026 farming calendar, with a projected farming area of nearly 1,920 hectares, while emphasizing the selection of certified seed and proper water treatment before stocking.

Furthermore, biosecure farming models such as Biofloc and semi-Biofloc are being encouraged to stabilize water quality, reduce disease outbreaks, and improve production efficiency.
