Vietnam Seafood Summit 2026: From market forecasts to answers for 2027–2029 growth

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) With less than two weeks to go, the Vietnam Seafood Summit 2026 (VSS 2026) will officially take place in Can Tho. Under the theme “Seafood Market Outlook 2027–2029 – Opportunities and Potential for Double-Digit Export Growth,” the Summit is organized by VASEP at a time when seafood businesses are facing rapid market shifts, changing buyer demand, trade policy changes and growing competitive pressure all at once.

This is the first time VASEP has organized a conference in the Summit format, aiming to build an annual dialogue forum. Seafood business leaders, market experts, buyers, supply chain companies and relevant agencies will look together at the issues that could determine the industry’s growth over the next three years.

Looking beyond 2027

What sets VSS 2026 apart is that the program does not stop at whether the market will rise or fall next year, but extends its horizon to 2027–2029.

When supply and demand, prices, inventories, tax policies, import requirements and consumer behavior can all change quickly, businesses need more than a short-term forecast. What matters is identifying early the signals that could affect plans for raw materials, production, product mix, markets, investment and cash flow.

From there, VSS 2026 raises a series of questions close to businesses’ day-to-day operations: Which product lines still have room to grow? How will orders and purchasing power shift? How are Vietnamese consumers buying seafood? Which trade barriers deserve particular attention? And what does the entire chain need to change to raise productivity, cut costs and improve competitiveness?

Five in-depth sessions, from product lines to markets and solutions

The VSS 2026 program is designed as five in-depth sessions. Together they form a continuous thread of content, from industry outlook, trade barriers and the domestic market to international buyers’ needs and concrete solutions for the entire chain.

  • Session 1 – Outlook for Key Seafood Categories 2027–2029 opens with a picture of seafood production and exports in 2026, along with forecasts for 2027–2029. The panel discussion will go in depth on orders, raw material supply, production costs, profit margins, capacity, inventories, competitive pressure, and the opportunities for core products, new products, further processing and by-products. Participants include leaders of major companies in the shrimp, pangasius, tuna and other seafood sectors.
  • Session 2 – Overcoming Barriers, Safeguarding Markets focuses on one of the issues exporters care about most today: taxes, protection and trade remedies, especially in the United States, as well as technical barriers and market requirements in China, the EU, the UK and Japan. From the perspectives of regulators, legal experts and companies, the discussion will help businesses better identify the risks they need to prepare for in terms of data, documentation, contracts and market strategy.
  • A notable highlight of the new program is Session 3 – Domestic Market: From Untapped Potential to Actual Seafood Consumption. The opening presentation will pose the question: “How are Vietnamese consumers buying seafood?” Food, retail and distribution companies will then discuss supplier selection criteria, prices, product specifications, packaging, convenience, traceability, delivery, sales data, and the conditions for products to enter, and stay in, the retail system, online platforms or foodservice channels.
  • After the lunch break, Session 4 – What Will Buyers Need in the Years Ahead? brings the perspective back to the international market. FAO experts will present three seafood market scenarios for 2027–2029, with indicators on demand, prices, inventories, supply and trade that businesses need to monitor when adjusting raw materials, production, sales and cash flow. Company representatives will then discuss real order signals, consumption trends, prices, product specifications, traceability and sustainability in major markets. They will also cover opportunities for products attracting growing interest, such as tilapia, seabass, red tilapia and lobster.
  • Closing the series of professional content is Session 5 – What Solutions Does the Seafood Value Chain Need for Sustainable Growth? From seed stock, feed, farming techniques, by-products and certification to finance, technology, logistics and the circular economy, the discussion focuses on a very practical question: which solutions can help businesses and producers increase productivity, control costs and improve efficiency? Participants from across the chain will not only talk about problems, but also about the conditions for application, the scope for cooperation, and how businesses can access concrete solutions.

The value lies in genuine dialogue

VSS 2026 is designed not merely for businesses to “listen to forecasts,” but to place different perspectives side by side. Exporters look from the angle of orders and costs; retailers from consumer behavior; experts from market trends; and banks, certification bodies, and suppliers of seed stock, feed and solutions from their capacity to support the whole chain.

It is this intersection that creates the value of a Summit: not only identifying opportunities, but together clarifying what conditions those opportunities need in order to become real growth.

With an expected attendance of 300+ delegates and 25+ speakers, experts and business leaders, VSS 2026 aims to be a day of focused dialogue on decisions that can directly affect the production, market and investment strategies of seafood businesses in 2027–2029.
