Ca Mau: Aiming for 1,000 hectares of clean shrimp farming across the province

News 08:53 29/09/2025
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) At the conference on August 17 reviewing the progress of expanding the high-density, low-water-exchange and biosecure whiteleg shrimp farming model, Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, Le Van Su, emphasized the goal of Ca Mau achieving 1,000 hectares of clean shrimp farming.

The pilot project on recirculating shrimp farming was launched in 2023 and was recognized as outstanding by October 2024. The expansion phase for 2025-2026 will be implemented in 12 communes over 24 months. So far, over 111 hectares have been registered for participation with 47 hectares currently under actual implementation. The average results after two crop cycles show a survival rate of 72%, a yield of 35.3 tons per hectare per cycle and a profit margin exceeding 60%, surpassing initial targets.

The model has been assessed as easy to apply, produces no environmental discharge, while also opening up potential for developing additional activities such as tilapia farming and export-oriented seaweed cultivation. This is a step aligned with the trend of green growth and the circular economy.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that scaling up the model not only creates a breakthrough for the province’s key shrimp sector but also contributes to sustainable economic development, enhancing Ca Mau's position in both domestic and international markets.
