VSS2026: Seafood exports top USD 10.4 billion in 10 months – how should seafood businesses prepare for 2027?

News 08:26 05/11/2026 Phuong Linh
(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Seafood exports are holding double-digit growth, but the opportunities are not spread evenly across product groups and markets. As businesses draw up their plans for 2027, Vietnam Seafood Summit 2026 (VSS2026) offers a chance to look ahead together: what to sell, where to sell it, and how to prepare for growth in the coming years.

Vietnam’s seafood exports reached USD 10.459 billion in the first 10 months of 2026, up 12.1% year-on-year. Behind this result, however, lie some notable shifts. China–Hong Kong and ASEAN accounted for about two-thirds of the increase in export value, while exports to the US fell 1.2%. In October alone, shrimp exports dropped 4.9%. These signals call for a closer look at the quality and sustainability of growth.

Going into 2027, will momentum from Asia remain strong enough? When will demand in the US pick up? How should shrimp exporters adjust their products and markets in the face of fierce competition and trade remedy duties? Where are the remaining gaps for pangasius, tuna and other seafood to expand market share? These questions bear directly on decisions about raw material purchasing, pricing, order acceptance and investment.

Taking place on 11 November 2026 in Can Tho, VSS2026 is organized by VASEP under the theme “Seafood market outlook 2027–2029: Opportunities and room for double-digit export growth”. The summit aims to bring market intelligence together with hands-on business experience, giving companies a firmer basis for planning next year and setting long-term direction.

A key highlight is the chance to engage directly with the people running production and exports and tackling market challenges every day. The announced speakers include leaders and representatives from Minh Phu, Sao Ta, Vinh Hoan and Hai Vuong, along with representatives of leading companies across the shrimp, pangasius, tuna, other seafood and domestic distribution sectors. They are joined by legal experts and a representative of the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam. These business and policy perspectives will help participants test forecasts against the realities of their own operations.

Across five in-depth sessions, the programme focuses on sector outlooks, trade barriers, buyer demand, the domestic market and whole-value-chain solutions. Discussions on raw materials, technology, logistics, finance and sustainability go beyond the question of finding buyers. They also address the capacity to fulfil orders and keep costs under control.

For participating businesses, the value also lies in bringing their own questions to the discussion, sharing experience and finding partners. With 2027 plans now taking shape, a close-to-market perspective, lessons in managing risk or the right business connection can all help companies act more proactively.

Businesses are invited to register for VSS2026 to get the latest outlook, exchange solutions and identify growth opportunities for 2027–2029.

Vietnam’s seafood industry in 2027–2029: Where will new growth opportunities come from?

 |  14:56 19/10/2026

(vasep.com.vn) Markets are changing faster, buyer requirements are becoming more demanding, and trade barriers are growing increasingly complex. In this environment, seafood businesses need more than an understanding of current market conditions. They need a longer-term perspective to answer a critical question: Where will growth opportunities come from in 2027–2029, and what should businesses do now to prepare? This is one of the key reasons why VASEP is organizing Vietnam Seafood Summit 2026.

Vietnam’s pangasius exports to the middle east recover, but growth remains uneven

 |  16:04 15/10/2026

(vasep.com.vn) In the first eight months of 2026, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to the Middle East reached US$113 million, up 7% year on year from the same period in 2025. Growth has become more pronounced in recent months. In August alone, exports to the region totaled US$20 million, an increase of 24%. This indicates that demand for Vietnamese pangasius in the Middle East is gradually recovering after a slowdown in March, although the pace of recovery varies across markets.

China’s shrimp imports surge: major opportunities, but demand and product mix must be assessed carefully

 |  08:32 14/10/2026

(vasep.com.vn) China’s shrimp imports continued to grow strongly in 2026, while Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the market also recorded notable growth. However, behind these positive figures lie two distinct trends: Chinese consumption is growing more slowly than imports, and lobster accounts for a substantial share of Vietnam’s shrimp exports to China, making its product mix significantly different from those of Ecuador and India. Exporters therefore need to assess each segment carefully to understand the opportunities and risks.
