Within the framework of the conferences at VIETFISH 2018, VASEP (Vietnam) in coordination with Nha Trang University (Vietnam), Matis (Iceland), Tromsø University (Norway), Nofima (Norway), and Syntesa (Denmark) plans to hold the series of conferences with topic “European Seafood Industry: Competitiveness and Market Potentials”

Organizers: VASEP (Vietnam), Nha Trang University (Vietnam), Matis (Iceland), Tromsø University (Norway), Nofima (Norway), and Syntesa (Denmark).

Objectives

Seafood industry of Vietnam has become a global success story over last two decades. The sector contribution to national development and global food security is significant. However, the industry is in a critical period that needs upgrading to the global value chains, regardless its products have been in over 160 countries and regions.

VIETFISH (www.vietfish.com.vn/) is an important event organized annually by VASEP to promote the seafood sector. By the same time a conference for exchanging the knowledge regarding to updated technology, economics, management and trade issues is organized. The conference brings opportunities for discussion and developing collaboration in business, research and education from academia, governments, international organizations, NGOs, and the industry. The conference focuses on emerging topics at national and global level.

VIETFISH conference 2018 is the first time co-organized by Nordic research institutes including Matis (Iceland), Nofima (Norway), Syntesa (Denmark) and Trømso University (Norway) together with Vietnam partners (Nha Trang University and VASEP).

The conference includes a two-day field trip on 20th-21st August to Mekong delta for visiting pangasius & shrimp farming and processing plants. The trip is limited ONLY for oral presenters.

To submit oral presentations or/and posters, you should send abstract(s) of maximum 300 words to Dr. Thong Tien Nguyen via email (thongnt@ntu.edu.vn) by the 5th July 2018. The template for registration is in attached file.

Registration

The conference participation is free. In addition, registered participants will have free ticket to enter the VIETFISH exhibition. The participants with accepted oral presentation will be offered the bus ticket for two days trip to Mekong delta (one-night hotel paid by their own budget).

Egypt emerges as a bright spot for Vietnamese tuna exports

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Egypt is emerging as one of the most promising destinations for Vietnamese tuna exports in 2026. During the first four months of the year, export turnover to this market exceeded USD 7.3 million, marking a sharp increase compared to the same period over the previous two years. As Egypt’s tuna imports continue to recover and demand for canned tuna remains strong, the market is becoming increasingly attractive for Vietnamese tuna processors and exporters.

Value-added pangasius products expand presence in CPTPP markets

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) During the first four months of 2026, Vietnam’s pangasius exports to CPTPP member countries reached nearly USD 128 million, accounting for 18% of the country’s total pangasius export value and increasing by 21% compared to the same period in 2025. Demand patterns varied significantly across the bloc: Mexico primarily imported fresh and frozen pangasius products, while Japan and Canada recorded substantial shares of processed products. Australia remained focused on frozen fillets but continued to maintain a portion of processed imports.

Minh Phu targets trillion-dong pre-tax profit despite slow recovery in the U.S. market

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Despite the slow recovery of the U.S. market and continued trade-related challenges facing Vietnam’s shrimp industry, Minh Phu Seafood Corporation (MPC) has set ambitious targets for 2026. The company aims to produce 68,800 metric tons of finished shrimp products, generate consolidated revenue of VND 19.9 trillion, and achieve VND 1.059 trillion in pre-tax profit. If achieved, these figures would represent the highest revenue and profit levels in the company’s history.

China increases shrimp imports, but market access is becoming more stringent

However, alongside rising demand comes an increasingly stringent import control system, covering quarantine requirements, food safety standards, registration procedures, and traceability. This makes China a market that offers both significant opportunities and growing risks for Vietnamese shrimp exporters.

Shrimp prices recover, Mekong Delta expects expansion in stocking areas
